Japaneseness
This week is a very happening Japanese week for me.
My first Japanese teacher in S'pore, Hiroki (APU exchange student in 2005), came here last Sun with his gf. Kanna and I, together with Kanna's bf and 2 friends of Hiroki, met up with them at Clarke Quay to drink. This is my first time being a bit drunk this year and the worst ever 'cos I've never drunk Voka too much without mixing anything. Thanks to Tetsuya, a weak drinker who can drink a lot, I wasn't drunk in the end. His technique of making ourselves vomit before we are about to get drunk is very handy. I managed to vomit and drank again.... lol
Monday was my Japanese Cultural Club's "Itadakimasu" gathering. Itadakimasu is something like a prayer Christians say before meal. As the name says, this gathering is at a Japanese restaurant. This time we went to Edogawa Restaurant in Central @ Clarke Quay. It's a teppanyaki restaurant. The ambience is nice and very Japanese. The menu and food look like Japanese thought doesn't taste like Japanese. I was surprised by the remote control waiters use to pass the order to the kitchen. All restaurants in Japan use this and according to my friends, memorizing the keys and the menu at the beginning of the job is the toughest time cos it's not like McDonald's palmtops which are very user-friendly. This restaurant really bothers to serve us different types of foods in small dishes just like in Japan. Though the taste is not authentic, we're quite satisfied to have $10 subsidy from the restaurant and our club. After lunch, we went to another Japanese restaurant called Sho-U at Central too to eat deserts. This is a modern style restaurant. We're mesmerized by the decorations. The entrance is all red including the light, table, wall, etc. which leads to another room of black and white. There is a small yet romantic room with fur on the wall for couple. The waiters and waitresses are also in all white or black or red depending on which room they are at. Since their location is not very good, I think a lot of people don't know about this restaurant. Apparently we were the only customers inside so the waitress took her time to show us different rooms, explained the food as in how the chef got the idea to make a particular food, etc. Although it's obviously expensive, the deserts are nice. After the deserts, we marched to Vivocity to catch Death Note: L change the World. It's a nice movie but I prefer Death Note story. This story is all about L and new theme. What I learnt from the movie is "No matter how gifted you are, you can't change the world alone" (by L). L, please change my world too!
Yesterday I met Taku, my Korean friend whom I met at Rikkyoo as an exchange student. We went to Holland village to eat Katong Laksa.
Then I went to Pasta de Waraku witht Tsoyoshi and ate Ikasumi.
