Tea Chapter & Services Marketing

I kinda regreted taking summer course 3B. Is it the course or is it just me cos I feel very sianz yet busy. The prof is an adjunct prof from NUS. Needless to say how boring the lecture is :( {not seminar like other SMU profs}. There is nothing much to learn from this course. Everything taught in this class is more or less covered in MPW, LTB, MR and MKTG 101. I have no mood to study. Perhaps I might need more holidays.

Anyway, we went to Tea Chapter on Neil Road at China Town near Mexwell to check the service provided. It's quite a cosy and traditional tea house but quite expensive :p Servicescape is very nice, giving customers a nice ambience with calligraphy, tea smell and wooden furnitures. But the staff are just so so. The guy explaining about the history of tea and tea appreciation is not passionate about the subject that he was explaining. Ancient Chinese were so free that they even had time to appreciate tea with super small cup haha...

How to appreciate tea:

1st: Boiled water from the kettle is poured on top of & inside clay tea pot (forgot the name. haha) to make it warm cos the the temp might go down in the cold tea pot affecting the taste of tea. Then rinse the fair pot (the white one) and tea cups and fragrance cup (the elongated one).

2nd: Put tea leaves in tea pot & pour hot water into clay tea pot & immediately pour the tea. Then pour hot water again. This time, wait for 40 sec. Use thumb, index and middle fingers only to carry the pot.

3rd: Pour the tea inside fair pot so that the tastes of tea in all the cup will be same, otherwise last cup's taste will be super strong. Then pour the tea from fair cup to frangrance cups.

4th: Use thumb and index finger to hold the frangrance cup and appreciate the smell. then pour the tea into tea cup which must be hold with thumb, index and middle fingers.

5th: Drink the tea in 3 sips. First sip is to let the tongue feel the tea(not sure), second the gum and mouth, and third is to appreicate the tea.

6th: Roll the fragrance cup with your hands to make it cool down. At the same time make your hands warm.

To drink again, repat from second half of step 2 (cos tea leaves can be used for 5 times. but you must wait 10 more secs in each subsequent time). After 5 times, change tea leaves.
