Service in Singapore companies suck!
This is not the first time I feel very irritated by lousy services in Singapore major corps.
1st is OCBC. I applied my SMU-OCBC card in week 1. A couple of weeks after my application, I received one letter from them. I thought they sent the card to me. But it was actually a letter telling me that my application was not complete cos my passport had been expired since 2002. Come on...how can I come to Singapore in 2004 if my passport was expired in 2002. Their stupid staff didn't photocopy my passport extension page. Well, I wasn't that angry cos it's understandable that he might be careless due to a large number of students. Then I waited another 2 weeks. I recieved a letter. I was very sure that that letter was nothing but my card. But, it tended out to be the same letter. This time they said I didn't submit my student pass. The way they wrote the letter sounded like it was my mistake not to submit it. Can I actually apply a card by mail or phone? Was I me or OCBC staff who photocopied and checked the particulars before submission? Ok I could give them benefit of the doubt cos that day was really crowded. But, they should have checked carefully and asked me to bring my student pass along when I went there again to show my passport extension. But for the fact that OCBC is in SMU, I would have been bothered to go there and submit my particulars again and again.
2nd encounter was Starhub. I changed my plan to student value plan when I recontracted my phone line. With student plan I can enjoy extra 500 SMSes. So my avg SMS per months rose up from 300 to 700/800 as a trade of to my free outgoing time from 160 to 100 min. I didn't know that they have been charging me for my extra SMSes which are still free under student's plan. When I called them, they said I didn't submit my student's pass. Come on when I recontracted my phone, it is a MUST to show my student's pass. I told the shop, THIS MOBILE @ Ginza plaza (Starhub's partner shop) that I'm changing my plan to student's plan. That guy was very blur and he even called Starhub to check if I could change. We, then, signed a contract of 2 year for student's plan. Don't tell me Starhub HQ didn't receive my student's pass copy from that shop. If they didn't recieve, how can they know I recontracted and sent me new bills? My contract stated clearly that it's a student plan. After current contract of 2 years, I'll be working and be a PR. By then, my spending power would be high compared to now, but so sorry Starhub. I'll change operator.
3rd encounter is my lovely SMU.
Last Monday I was late for my class. When I reached my class, there was no more chair. I had a hard time looking for chair from GSRs. The class is super crowded with 48 students. For those not from SMU, 48 might not be a lot in your class. It may even be a small number compared to your class size. But, for us it's a lot. They promised small classroom size of avg 40 to 45 (max). But we are cheated. Nowadays every class has at least 45. Where does our money go to?
Another irritating place is the library. In old campus, our library was a very cozy place and quiet enough to study. After shifted to the city, it is like the hell cos of the noise. There was no librarian nor recorded msg to warn students not to speak loud.
Anyway, this is Singapore and why am I looking for a premium service? Except for SIA, there is no company providing good services. Just bear with it. After this sem, I'll be in Tokyo again. Those who've been to Japan know how good Japanese companies are at providing excellent services.
