Taiwan Elections

No news amused me more than elections campaigns updates from Taiwan. Perhaps I'm a marketing student. I love marketing campaigns from each candidate. Now the results have been already out and KMT is celebrating. It's said his policies are good or he can improve the ties with China ...... 

But, it won't be wrong that elections campaigns also played an important role in their presidency race. Being into advertising and branding sides of marketing, I enjoyed this year's campaigns a lot. 

DPP

Compared to KMT, DPP's campaign ads were a little bit poorly produced (in my opinion) but quite emotional and touched a lot of younger generation's hearts. No wonder my friend flew back to Taiwan earlier this week to cast his vote for DPP on this hell week in school. But, too bad! He wasted his air ticket and now DPP lost. 

OMG! I really love this idea man! No other country in this world has done this kinda thing. We saw Obama toys on the news but they are made in Japan, especially in the city called Obama which shares the same name and wanna leverage on the US elections to boost their tourism. As part of their marketing campaign they produce Obama related stuffs. But, it's a bit different in Taiwan cos this idea was executed by the candidate and not the third party. I was following CNA news whole evening and they said his toys are soft-toys to show how DPP touches heart of the public.

Actually most of the ads by DPP were very low-profile. Frank Hsieh used his webcam and youtube to reach out its supporters. And there are so many parody of Ma Ying-Jeou done by DPP supporters.

KMT

KMT's marketing effort won't be complete without its branding strategy. Ma Ying-Jeou portrays himself as energetic and hardworking man who will change Taiwan. His symbol is running. I didn't know the underlying meaning until I had an idea of running in his ads below. This Ad is so cool with very nice music. I like the idea of horses running in the first part. Horse represents Ma Ying-Jeou cos his name is Ma (Horse).

Despite dialect groups, KMT wooed gender, races and even sexual orientation. Ma's this idea is also very cool. It gives a feeling of how he understands women. On top of his look and charisma, this ad certainly worth a few million of votes from the women.
