Recess Week & Me

It's not a break! Actually I was quite free in week 6 & 7 cos I have no mid-term this semester. So, my normal weeks are quite routine but this week I had meetings from Monday to Thur, especially Thur on which I had 2 meetings, 1 consultation with Prof, 1 Networking session and my 3 hr Japanese class. I'm so tired!

Networking
I didn't find any company in particular which makes me feel like the only place to work. Some companies which I went for (though some really disappointed me are)

1) IBM (the chance of getting offer is high since I did my internship there but I'm not sure if this is the right industry I wanna go. But, one of my seniors working in IBM was posted to Japan though he knows nothing about Japanese. This really excites me but on the other hand my supervisor during my internship, who was fromt the same batch as my senior was damn bored and I think he left IBM now.)

2) CAT (compulsory posting to another country during the so-called trainee program)

3) IE Singapore (at least 1 overseas trip per month. But, foreigners must convert to Singapore citizenship so as to be promoted.)

4) Surbana (an architecture firm with lots of project in Carter, Middle East, China, etc. employees are expected to travel overseas at any time. The HR guy hinted me that they don't want those from some communist, military country cos we have Visa problems to go some other countries.

5) S'pore Tourism Board (Only second upper class and above are required to apply. No overseas trip within the so-called management-trainee period. So bye bye!!!)

And many more....

IE Singapore used to be in my consideration set but the time when the HR lady said I must convert to Singapore citizen, it's a really turn-off. Well, what's wrong with converting to Singapore citizenship? It's a rich country with lots of business opportunity. And some of my friends have already converted. So, why not me? Within 2 years of being a PR, I can apply for Singapore citizenship but do I really want to be in a country with no Democracy under the undemocratic Lee regime? As of now, I don't want my generation suffer in NS and pay the bloody CPF and no benefits for the aged. Current Affairs in my country also caused me to dislike Singapore. It's just like Parkistan and PM Lee is not different from Musharaf. Parkistan supported Taliban by letting them stay in their country and supporting weapons. But, when the States attack Afghanistan, Parkistan pleased Bush by allowing the US troops to use their land while supporting the Taliban indirectly. Now, look at the current situation. PM Lee condemned Myanmar government and George Yeo denounced the brutal crackdown by using the so-called strongest words among diplomatic society in Singapore history. On top of that, they even went to the UN and made the whole world think they are the one going to change the government in Myanmar. But, ironically it's Singapore which was always against the US whenever the latter tries to make other countries impose sanctions on Myanmar. If you don't know, Singapore is the second biggest trading partner for Myanmar after China. One can imagine that in the isolated country which trades with a handful of countries only, second biggest investors is a very big guy. Anyway, what's wrong with doing business, you can ask, since Singapore is also a Chinese society who only cares about money. Singapore is selling weapons to the Burmese miltary which use them to kill the innocent monks and civilians. The strict banking laws here protect enclosing the information about the junta's bank accounts. The son-in-law of the junta head, the richest businessman in Burma, is awarded to open his office in Shenton Way and stay in many luxurious condominiums. No wonder Singapore is the Medical vacation destiny for them. Last year when the junta head came to SGH for medical checkup, the whole floor was guarded by securities. Recently, the freshly deceased Burmese PM was discharged from SGH before he died in Burma. Singapore, in fact, is on top of the list of the countries which will be sad when Burma gets democracy cos it won't be able to exploit natural resources from the junta. What a cheapskate country! While PM & FM are voicing out their concerns in public, their police and arresting SPD chiefs who are practically helping the Burmese people here to protest. Come on, action speaks louder than words. Burmese community even called Singapore police "Singapore Kyant Phont (USDA in Burmese)" cos they are everywhere in plain clothes to investigate the protest. Just now my friend said PM Lee's eldest daughter is going to join politics and maintain the Lee Dynasty in Singapore and who knows in future she'll be the first Empress Lee in Singapore.

Anyway, going back to my topic, I will try not to go to the public sector here!
Lust Caution
With my busy schedule, I managed to watch Lee Hom's Lust Caution. Disappointed!!! The movie was greatly censored. It was rated NC 17 in the States but I'll say it's not even worth PG 13 in Singapore. I went to Cathy@AMK Hub to watch with my Taiwanese friends who told me that the most important part was censored according their friends in Taiwan. Because that part will tell why Ms. Mak changed her mind to assessinate Mr. Yee. I'm sure Ang Lee won't anyhow use that scence to attract more horny audience at the expense of being ranked as NC17. I'm wondering why don't SG government gave NC 21 to it and limit the audience if they think that scene should be seen by adults.
