去年の今日

5 April 2007

Today is my first day of school. It had been raining in Tokyo for so many days and it even snowed on the first day I arrived at Tokyo from Osaka (it was a big news 'cos it had never snowed that late in April in Tokyo for so many years). Anyway, today is quite sunny. It's my first day of school but this week is dedicated to freshmen (both Japanese and exchange students). The whole week is full of orientation ceremony and CCA recruitment activities.

In marketing, we always talk about Service Experience & Touch Point. One of the touch points from Rikkyo is "Entrance Ceremony Wish" Banner (Pic 1) along the street to the University. Actually I saw the signages since in Ikebukuro Station near the Metropolitan Hotel exit. One of the most beautiful prewar-era-style buildings in Tokyo is nothing than Rikkyo Main Building. (1 J-drama actually was shot here as the house of one character in the drama which name I can't remember)

Rikkyo is a Christian University with an english name, St. Paul University. This is St. Paul (pic 3). I didn't expect the whole school to be full of Cherry Blossoms. It's such a colorful scenes of skyful of Cherry blossoms and colorful fashions of Rikkyo students. Japan is one of the leading fashion countries in the world, more advanced than the States and many European countries. Tokyo undoubtably is the most fashionable cities in the world. Fashion magazines with tips for shopping are sold everywhere. And, guess what, most of the models are from Rikkyo. When I asked my Japanese friends (non-Rikkyo) what is famous for different universities. They said Tokyo U is famous for the smartest students, Keio smart and rich but Rikkyo rich and fashionable (pic 4). (anyway, I'll post Rikkyo fashion some other day)

Pic 7 to 11: CCAs recruiting freshies.

Pic 12 and 13: IFL (Int'l Friendly Lunch) Club's Campus Tour to exchange students. I love them! This club is no different from SMU Icon in helping exchange students settling down in their country, except for the passions of each member which I ashamedly have to admit lacks in my very own club members from SMU Icon. They join their clubs cos they love foreign students and different cultures. We joined Icon cos we have no other clubs to put in our Resume. I don't mean all my club members have this attitude. There are super passionate members in our club too but limited to 1 to 2% only.

Pic 14: College of Business exchange students (me, Junkai, Alicia from S'pore & Peggy, Novia & Gloria from Taiwan) with other exchange students at the orientation. Unlike SMU OIR their orientation is personalized. They attended to each student to fill the form and went through the schedule.

Pic 15: 28 exchange students plus IFL volunteers outside the Center for International Studies.
