Are Singaporeans very discourteous?

Mood - mad
Song - Forever Love - Japanese Version by Lee Hom

Living in Singapore for 2 years plus, I'm occassionally pissed off by some discourteous and indecisive people. The phrase I hate most is "see how bah"! I do use that phrase but with some conditions. Few weeks ago, Sunday Times contacted me that they wanted to interview me as a foreign student and asked me to come for photoshoot which was at 6.00 PM the following day. They said the venue would be given on that day. Upon their request, I went shopping to buy a bright-color top on the night before the photoshoot. Just for photoshoot, I even cancelled the dinner appointment with some Hong Kong students who were going back to HK soon. I was waiting for their confirmation of venue until 5.00 PM and called them in the end. Then they (actually one SMU student who's interning there) told me that her editor changed his mind and decided to use someone below 21 only. I was very angry not because they cancelled the interview with me but because of their discourteousness to inform me in advance about their decision. It's impossible that the decision was made not so long ago that there was a short time between the times when the decision was made and I called them. In fact, I've emailed them around 3.00 PM to confirm the venue. I don't know how many people she has treated like that, but it's such a shame to SMU, Sunday Times and Singapore to have a student, employee and a citizen to treat a fellow student, client and foreigner like this. How can the government call their country as a tourist and education hub where their citizens are behaving like that?

Was it the only encounter for me to conclude Singaporeans have no courtesy and respect? Well, some people from my project group/CCA don't care about email and sms. I understand some people don't usually check email but how can one explain for not replying SMS(es) even after receiving them for one week? If he/she cannot do the things mentioned in those SMS or email, they should at least reply that they receive it and would attend to that matters by when and how. But, without these replies, the sender is like a fool waiting for nothing.

Personally, I do have few friends (of cos Singaporeans) who cancel the appointment without notification (not to mention advanced notification with ample time) and some who don't attend to my SMSes.

Singapore is called a place where the West meets the East, but Singaporeans do not have western value of repsecting other people's precious time as well as eastern value of saving other people's face by making them not feel insulted.

One more thing.... they are educated and open-minded compared to their ancestors from China. But, see how many people can accept my criticism as a foreigner, as a SMU student and as a friend. Well, that is Singapore!
